I grew up in a small town south of Detroit, so you would think I would be well-versed in Detroit-Style Pizza. Unfortunately, I am so old, the only Detroit pizza I knew was Little Caesar’s!
I love history, but I somehow missed the talk on 20th century automotive workers originally making this pizza in rectangular steel trays designed for use as automotive drip pans. The creators of this pizza reversed engineered it with cheese and pepperoni layered on top of the thick crust followed by rows of sauce and more pepperoni to give the pizza a caramelized texture. I am excited to add this recipe to my @carondeletkitchen mix. It is time to play my 70’s rock and “take the midnight train going anywhere” while remembering my childhood in Detroit!
