Big Guy and I have certainly turned @carondeletgarden into our own personal experiment. After all, you must “kill” a plant twice to really understand it, right?
We took a flutter when we decided to plant fruit bushes. The first set of plants was three different blueberry offerings, which despite its own special box, seemed to be suffering from too much heat. Fortunately, we moved them into another raised bed in a shadier part of the garden, and they are now thriving even though we will have to patiently wait until next season to see them fruit. The raspberries were, we thought, going to be a sad story. Our precious doodle decided she did not like the raspberry bushes last Fall and started to rip them out one by one. The big surprise was seeing them poke up their heads in the spring, so we decided to move them as well into an adjacent raised bed to the blueberries. I am happy to say they too are thriving and producing fruit for fall harvest. I am now dreaming about making raspberry jam, sorbet, and using them fresh on my waffles in the coming weeks. Oh, happy day!
