Superman has a weakness for Kryptonite. My Big Guy has a weakness for bread, so it was no surprise to see a new cookbook on the counter freshly arrived by @kalnyc. The Irish Bakery is a wonder to behold with beautiful photography by @montgomeryphoto and recipes by @cheriedenhamcooks. It also contains essays by @corrigankitty.
Upon initial review, I was thrilled to see so many recipes that were simple and not too overwhelming for me as I have long professed that my baking skills are still a work in progress. I decided to try the smoked bacon and mature cheddar soda bread as it called for six ingredients and no yeast. Once I sifted the flour, baking soda, and salt, I added in the bacon and cheese to give it a good coating. Big Guy jumped in at this point and enjoyed making the well in the dry ingredients and adding buttermilk and water. Once the ingredients formed into a dough, Big Guy made an oblong bread form and placed it on a warm baking sheet to be popped into the oven for thirty minutes. I predict this delicious bread will become a staple on my @carondeletkitchen table! So good!
