My parents used to go to New Harmony, Indiana with us to get away from the hustle and bustle of The Lou. On one of their solo trips, they brought back some old spice holders to add to the then unnamed Carondelet Kitchen. As the story goes, there was a bidding war at the antique store, but my dad was victorious. I never told him I found the companion set on my next visit without any drama. I keep my spices, in full disclosure, in their original holders in a special box in my cabinet, but these spice holders certainly captured my imagination. I have since added them to the kitchen as focal points along with old measuring cups. While their service is over, I love to point them out as art of an earlier day!
