I have written in the past about going through old heirlooms and often attempting to guess at its use as I was either not told or just didn’t pay attention. I was recently searching the internet again for an answer. It seems it was once fashionable to have pretty dishes to serve nuts or candy. I could believe this fact since my parents loved a good cocktail party, so I am in full belief this had to be part of their bar. I say bar but it was really a cart on wheels…and not the cool Mad Men version. I do like the idea of putting out my snacks in pretty dishes for my guests, when that is possible again, but these bowls are not super-sized like the appetites of today. You may be able to get about ten nuts or candy per bowl which I guess is good if you are watching your calories. I think I’ll try these out one night and really see how I feel about them during Happy Hour. My guess is I will be thinking of new ways to repurpose these dishes. Potpourri holder? Ring holder? The ideas are endless.
