I promise I have been cooking in the Carondelet Kitchen, but I have been waiting for the cooler days to pull out some new recipes. Think butternut soup and fresh pasta. Chili and chicken noodle soup. Yes, they are all coming soon.
In the interim, I am pulling out cookbooks and planning for the Fall. A recent acquisition is Kitchen Classics from the Philharmonic. I was drawn to this book, sorry for the pun, by the added artwork of Al Hirschfeld throughout the book. Mr. Hirschfeld was known as a caricaturist and was best known for his portraits of celebrities and Broadway stars, of which, many were displayed at Sardis Restaurant in New York. The book is fun because it provides, not only recipes, but the stories behind them. I suspect I will be pouring myself a martini while dreaming through these pages! Did I mention I had my first martini at Sardis?!
