Bread is such a versatile food. The fun and creative ingredients are what we chose to put on it. It seems there is nothing simpler than bread and butter. If you wish to elevate the eating experience, as we have enjoyed at many Italian restaurants, serve a dipping sauce. I believe the best way to start experimenting with your flavors is to use good olive oil and balsamic vinegar. You can never go wrong adding pepper and parmesan cheese for a basic dip. I have added Italian seasons and fresh herbs from the garden in season. We always loved the dipping sauce at Brazie’s Ristorante, now sadly closed, but we were never allowed to know the “secret” to the dip. The joy of being in the kitchen is to continue playing with the ingredients. I know one day we will find the right combination which will take us back to memories of the great people who worked and outstanding meals.
