St. Louis has a rich history of recipes from families and restaurants. I pulled out my two St. Louis Post Dispatch cookbooks and was reminded of this fact. They were Christmas gifts from my parents one year when the Big Guy and I were collecting St. Louis based books.
I seem to remember being neutral about the gifts until we started our journey with Carondelet Kitchen. Now I cannot get enough of St. Louis culinary history, and it was fun revisiting recipes from restaurants both from the past and those still in business. Thanks to my walk down memory lane, I was ready to revisit the onion soup recipe from Famous-Barr. I realize it may not be everyone’s favorite, but the smell of the caramelizing onions wafting in the air makes for great anticipation of the finished soup with a lovely bottle of red wine. Magic!
