Big Guy and I recently lost a dear friend who taught us about love through food. She was born in Mexico but immigrated to the United States becoming a proud citizen, raising a family, and being a friend to all. She was most happy when we all gathered around her table and enjoyed the food of her home country. She laughed at our feeble attempts to make tortillas before shooing us out of the kitchen so she could finish the meal in the proper way.
It seemed fitting to stop by La Catrina Mexican Restaurant after the memorial service and gathering to raise a glass in honor of our friend. The restaurant is named after one of the strongest and most recognizable symbols of The Day of the Dead celebration which added to our time of remembrance. We were treated so well by the staff as we celebrated our loved one. The drinks and food were outstanding, and I am sure our friend would have loved it since we were once again healed and loved through the power of food.
