Big Guy is already showing off his green thumb by bringing in our first head of lettuce. I wish I could add small-o-rama to this post since the smell of fresh lettuce is earthy, but heavenly. You will not get this smell from a bag of lettuce that has been sitting around the store!
I admit the first time we had lettuce from the backyard, I was still adjusting to food from our own garden. I was familiar with tomatoes, peppers, and herbs, but not lettuce. How sad is it that I thought food could only be good from the store? The first bite was magic, and it was an unexpected explosion of freshness in my mouth that makes me mourn the winter months when we are back to the store-bought heads. Such is the joy, and sorrow, of gardening!
