It is always a wonderful day to celebrate the city you love. The Big Guy and I have been in the city for our entire marriage with no plans to leave our beloved Carondelet.
We closed on our bungalow on Halloween in 1989. In our case, it was certainly a treat and no trick. Even though our furniture was still at the apartment, we showed up that night with a big bag of candy to pass out to the kids. We also knew it would be a fantastic way to meet our new neighbors! I have written in the past about Marie who was the block’s matriarch and our neighbor. Marie’s family built many of the houses on our street, so she was a wealth of knowledge about our house and the neighborhood. She was so delighted that we were moving into one of the “family” homes and knew we would love and care for it. Marie was so right. We will be celebrating 33 years in our home. Ironically, the baton has been passed and we are now the super cool old people on the block. We continue to carry Marie’s stories in our hearts and pass them on to the new generation joining us in Carondelet.
