I remember growing up with a neighbor who had a kitchen upstairs and one in her basement. I could never understand the reason for it until this summer. Despite air conditioning, I foolishly thought I could still make hot meals in comfort. It was not one of my better experiments.
I had the oven on and water boiling on the stove top. As the time passed, I noticed the kitchen getting warmer. I turned on fans which helped the air move, but it did nothing for my comfort level. By the time I served the meal, the thermostat said it was 82 degrees in our house. The lesson learned here is never again will I cook a hot meal when there is a heat advisory in the area. I don’t need a sauna inside and outside!
