We are great fans of the History Happy Hour program produced by the White House Historical Association. The program focuses on moments in history but also provides a cocktail that compliments the program. One episode talked about a drink that was very popular during Prohibition called the Orange Blossom which happened to be a favorite of Ronald Reagan. The drink Reagan preferred was made with a little vodka, sweet vermouth and orange juice. To find the recipe and check out what other U.S. presidents liked to drink, check out this New York Post article. Following this program, Big Guy and I were intrigued as the presenter made the drink with gin. In essence, the recipe was the same as above but substituted gin. While we both liked the drink, we felt it needed a different or extra ingredient to make the flavors pop. So, our version of the drink was born which we call the Orange Blossom Special. It packs a punch, but it tastes good on a hot St. Louis Day! Recipe:
