I have written about my journey to discover the mystery of cooking. At part of this experience, I constantly need to remind myself it is ok to fail. Burnt toast and grabbing the wrong spice should not be the end of the world. My nemesis was Mulligatawny Soup. I made it one weekend for lunch along with a fresh loaf of bread. I was excited to make this new recipe but found it lacking a satisfying flavor. My FIL thought it was the best lunch ever, but he was always happy to sit down to a home-cooked meal after playing golf. Year after year, I would search for the perfect recipe. I finally found it and have even found a way to change the recipe up to make a great chicken and rice soup. The lesson learned is to be forgiving and keep trying in the kitchen. And, worst case scenario, adopt our philosophy that a failed meal means a call to our local pizza place!
