I made a Kentucky Butter Cake this summer and it was delicious. As I wanted to introduce my family to it, I opted to make one for the holiday.
All was well until I realized I needed buttermilk. Sigh! Off to the store…AGAIN! It was probably good since I needed the time to soften my butter. Once home, the ingredients went together quickly, but in a certain way. For example, the butter and the sugar had to be mixed until “light and airy.” Next, I had to add the five eggs one at a time followed by adding the wet and dry mixture in alternate thirds until the batter was mixed thoroughly. I honestly do not know how bakers can get this done on their own as Big Guy had to be my sous chef for the entire bake! As the cake finished baking, I put the glaze together which consisted of sugar, butter, vanilla extract, and WATER? Heck no, this is a Kentucky cake, so I added bourbon. Now, it is a party cake!
