In these crazy times, I have found myself finding solace in the kitchen. I never thought about it being my “happy place,” until I realized the elevation of my mood whenever I spent time with a new recipe or a tried-and-true meal.
Mental wellness is important. Big Guy and I love to roam around the Lou and visit unfamiliar places which always changes our perspective on the day. When we are not active in the community, I have tried to listen to the sounds of my home and be quiet in the moment in appreciation for my blessings especially when I am in the kitchen. The coffee maker sounds and the anticipation of a fresh cup of joe. The dropping of ice in the ice maker and the drinks to come at happy hour. The whoosh of the water in the dishwasher cleaning my dishes for another round of cooking. Letting the Doodle outside and purposefully stopping to look out the back door and take in nature. I know life is busy and we often feel we do not have the time to take a minute for ourselves. It can be as simple as closing your eyes while drying your hair focused on nothing at all to rest your mind. Give yourself back a minute at a time and you feel a renewed spirit to tackle your day.
