Big Guy and I have been watching the various Julia Child documentaries and shows streaming on television. We even started reading her biographies which just continues to emphasize her impact on French cooking and public television.
The best part of learning more about Julia’s life, is discovering nuggets of information or other individuals who could bring interest to the Carondelet Kitchen. This happened the other night as I was reading Alex Prud’homme’s, “The French Chef in America: Julia Child’s Second Act.” There was a passage that spoke about Americans romantic fondness for France. It mentioned another lover of France, Samuel Chamberlain, who published “Clementine in the Kitchen.” It mentioned the book was about a French chef who charmed his Massachusetts neighbors. I had to find it! I just received it in the mail thanks to Amazon. The book cover notes, “Clementine, the rosy cheeked Burgundian cook so dear to the hearts of Gourmet Magazine readers, was actually the treasured peasant cook of Samuel Chamberlain when he and his family lived in France.” I am giddy to read the book. I realize it will be more story than recipes, but it will be a fun addition to my collection!
