The colors of Fall around Saint Louis are at their peak at the beginning of November this year. We drove around looking at the leaves and stopped by the park to take the Doodle for her walk. Once we wore her out, we decided to head over to Bolyard’s Meat Market in Maplewood. If you haven’t visited this little heaven for all things meat, then you are missing a true gem! While wanting one of everything we settled on a beautiful T-Bone steak that was, to say the least, picture perfect. Heading home we knew what was for dinner! Following a recipe, I’d just read in Ruth Reichl’s memoir: Garlic and Sapphires, we simply seasoned the meat after bringing it to room temperature and then, using a blazing hot cast iron skillet seasoned with a bit of rendered bacon grease, seared it for six minutes on one side with a nice knob of butter and then flipped for another six minutes. It was a work of art! We paired our meal with a lovely bottle of 2019 Sean Minor Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir that hit all of my sweet spots! Happy Fall flavors filled the kitchen, and a good meal satisfied the soul. Bon Appetit!
