I have been interested in the history of people and places since I was young. It may have been my early introduction to museums especially Greenfield Village in Dearborn, Michigan.
I am positive this love of history led me to buy two of Ann Lemons Pollack’s books. The first was the Iconic Restaurants of St. Louis. The second was the Lost Restaurants of St. Louis. I was immediately pulled into the books because of the history of historic restaurants, and the people who made them, that put Saint Louis on the map for tasty food. In her introduction, Ms. Pollack noted, “St. Louis is fortunate that it’s located in the midst of farms and gardens, a heritage that gave us a head start on good eating early on.” I could not agree more with this statement, and we should celebrate this as another great reason to live in Saint Louis.
