I just made a junk salad from lettuce in my fall garden. How crazy is that? I’m sure some would call it a kitchen sink salad, but I grabbed vegetables, meat and cheese from the refrigerator and tossed it all together. With the addition of some croutons and bread sticks, we had a wonderful lunch. In fact, this is how the cobb salad got created. Legend has it some hungry diners came into the Hollywood Brown Derby restaurant late one night in 1937 and the owner, Robert Cobb, threw together a salad with a variety of ingredients. It was so well received it became a signature dish on the menu. I guess this goes back to my saying to keep playing with your food. You are bound to create your own signature salad that will become a legend at your family gatherings.
