Big Guy and I planned my dad’s 80th birthday dinner ten years ago. We decided to go all out and do steaks and crab legs as that was his favorite meal. To make the event more festive, we did a dinner party for ten which was the highlight of my dad’s year.
I vividly remember preordering the food from our local grocery store. On the day that we picked up the food, the bill was just over $500. Nothing too good for my dad, right? While a bit of a surprise, we had to have the store manager approve the purchase even though there was no issue with our credit card. Big Guy and I recently went to the grocery store to load up on many items running low in the Carondelet Kitchen along with wine and canned goods for some planned charitable giving. Our bill was well over $500, and the checker did not even blink an eye as I ran my credit card. I guess if you need to hear a story about the increase in grocery bills due to the pandemic and changing purchase habits, this one was classic. I hope you are all well and paying forward some of your groceries to a local charity. Obviously, we are all in this together!
