Sweet My Fanny!

If you are a walker in the Carondelet neighborhood, I bet you have dodged a sweet gum ball. They are ironically the fruit of the sweet gum tree.

They were a popular tree for the city to plant many years ago since many of the trees are quite mature. My biggest concern, aside from my turned ankle, is the fruit getting stuck in the paw of my Doodle.

The first time it happened was on a walk with the Big Guy. Poor Big Guy had never dealt with it before and the Doodle acted like her back leg was chopped off. It was a dramatic day!

After some TLC and time, Doodle has learned it is part of living in Carondelet. She has gotten adept at tiptoeing around them. I just wish there were a way for them to fall in the street and not on the sidewalks. SIGH!
