Do you remember the commercial for Dunkin Donuts when the Fred the baker said, “Time to make the donuts?” The phrase was being used in the Carondelet Kitchen with one change…time to make the marinara sauce.”
We honestly did not have a choice in the matter. Despite our complaints about the thieving squirrels, Big Guy and I realized we had over 50 pounds of San Marzano tomatoes in the freezer. We were going to have to either make the sauce or buy another freezer! We are lucky we make sauce well together. While I roast the onions and garlic, Big Guy gets busy boiling and peeling the tomatoes. It becomes a ballet with both of us doing our jobs as I move into pureeing the vegetables, so the sauce comes together. We were rewarded with twenty-two “cans” of sauce we can share with our family and friends, especially to our previous neighbors who helped us start this annual fun in the kitchen!
