Big Guy and I have a lovely Carondelet cottage that favors old school furnishings such as a home bar. Our bar is not out of a box from Ikea nor is our love of Happy Hour!
Our bar started life as a radio cabinet! We rescued our cabinet from a shop on Cherokee Street decades ago with the very idea of turning it into a home bar. Big Guy had his work cut out for him to first remove the old radio parts which included many knobs and tubes. Then he went to work on refurbishing the wood so it would be renewed for its new life. We have given it multiple layers of improvement in time by building up the bar to include a shelf for our glassware and a back bar to keep the bottles in place. The newest addition is twinkling lights to back light the bottles giving it that fancy bar feel you see in high end restaurants. It seems fitting we created our own old-fashioned bar to enjoy our old school drinks. Rusty nail or martini, anyone?
