We watched the CNN documentary on Julia Child which I highly recommend as it gives you pause to realize the changes affecting the industry over the past 40 years. As I reflected on my childhood and my parents’ style of cooking, I realized they were in that generation that wanted everything fast and easy. Obviously, this was not Julia’s mantra!
I have come to appreciate the same is true for cookbooks. My grandma had one cookbook and a box full of handwritten recipe cards. My mom had three cookbooks and the inherited box of recipes. I have over three hundred cookbooks on top of my inherited books and recipe cards. The books I have are varied but they bring me so much joy. I have the serious cookbooks, but I giggled when the Big Guy bought me the Downtown Abbey cookbook. I really laughed when I got the Sweet Magnolia cookbook. As I started to read both books, I realized real chefs were providing the recipes and I honestly got excited to try the recipes. I cannot wait for the delivery of my spring pan so I can try the savory bacon and Swiss cheesecake! I know I have been a little remiss in showing off my recipes thanks to the ant invasion of 2022. Things are under control and the cooking is gearing up again especially with Our Carondelet Garden already producing lettuce and snap peas!
