My family has a tradition of making meat pies for Christmas. It is truly a delicious pie, but the name is terrible. Who wants to eat a MEAT pie?! I have one cousin who just refuses to like it and is just fine without it on her family table.
As the recipe has evolved from generation to generation, I would like to believe this recipe is a 2.0 version honoring what we believe is the essence of the original recipe. My Aunt noted it should be served with cranberry relish, but most of the family grabs the ketchup. I marvel at the time it takes to make the pies, two days, and most of the kids treat it like a blended hamburger. I hope this riff on the recipe is sophisticated enough to avoid the ketchup!
