The Carondelet Kitchen has certainly seen many remodels over three decades to make it a modern joy for cooking, eating, and spending time with family and friends. Once we finished our last remodel, I got in the habit of decorating my kitchen window for the month and or holiday. I got inspired when I started cleaning out cabinets and going through my family heirlooms. I was struck that many of these fine items were relegated to display cabinets or in a box. I made the decision that day to start displaying these things in my kitchen window. It not only adds a little fun to the kitchen, but it gives us an opportunity to remember our loved ones. For example, my dad’s porcelain dog collection for the “dog days of summer” or my mom’s family teacup for St. Patrick’s Day. I’ll also add cookbooks, flowers, and other items to round out the display each month. So, enjoy my homage to the month of January. Long Nights and Log Fires is one of my favorite cookbooks with many of my favorite soups for a cold winter day.
